The Gauge One smart measuring tape
For tailoring shops in India

Measure once. The shop remembers.

A smart measuring tape and one app for the whole shop: the master measures, the phone says each size aloud and saves it, and every order, slip and rupee is in one place.

The notebook is the shop’s memory

Measurements live in a register, on loose chits and in blurry phone photos. When the busy season comes, that is where things break.

Lost pagesA torn page or a wet register, and a regular customer has to be measured again.
Calls to the shopThe karigar phones to ask a size because he can’t read the slip.
Trial changes forgottenWaist +½ at the trial, but next year’s order uses the old size.
Money in headsWho paid an advance, who still owes: it’s spread across chits and memory.

A measuring tape that talks to your phone

It looks and feels like a tape. Pull it round the body as you always do; the reading appears on the tape and on the phone at the same moment.

It reads the size aloud in your language and moves to the next point.

Hands-free

The phone lies on the counter. Your hands stay on the customer.

  • The phone says each point’s name before you measure it: shoulder, bust, waist, sleeve.
  • The number is big enough to read from a metre away.
  • Body, a sample garment, or a home visit: each garment loads only its own points.
  • Made a mistake? Redo the last one, or type a value with ¼ ½ ¾ keys.

Every fitting remembered

Next year, the right size is already there

Each customer has dated versions of her measurements. A change at the trial becomes a new version, so the next order starts from the size that fitted.

  • Find a customer by name or phone number in seconds.
  • “Same as last time? Change anything?” Compare two versions side by side.
  • Changes by staff wait for the owner’s yes before they replace the old size.

For the karigar

No more calls to ask a size

The karigar sees his own pieces, with photos and icons. He can tap “listen” and hear every measurement read aloud, or report a problem by voice.

  • His pieces, due dates and earnings for the week.
  • No smartphone? He gets the job slip on WhatsApp instead.
  • He never sees the customer’s phone number or the price.
WhatsApp slips

Every slip on WhatsApp, in their language

Order, measurements, bill, payment receipt, progress and pickup: each goes out as a neat image with a short message. The shop taps Send.
